Rising Star
12 May 2009

We all absolutely lurve a good read. And call us girly, but nothing goes down better than a modern-day drama which fills up the hours with some intriguing banter.

This is not to say that the old romantic novels don’t have there place – you know, the boy meets dazzling girl; girl falls head over heels in love; her parents don’t like him because he’s not in her class; problem makers and schemers get involved to tear them apart; hearts get broken; and finally fate brings them together… aahh.. happily ever after.

But let’s face it, in an age of Facebook, Blackberry’s and Prada, sometimes a gal needs something a bit more, err… relatable?

Trinity Rising is just that. It's funny and light-hearted, it has some sharp twists, and most importantly it gives us a heroine we all kinda know and that we want to root for.

Meet our protagonist, Trinity Luhabe – drop dead gorgeous, oodles of cash, smart, and on her way to her first day at Rhodes University (we suddenly envision Legally Blonde meets Backstage).

Follow her as she embarks on a journey of self discovery and reflection, tries to keep her cool as she falls in l-o-v-e, forges new friendships, and pursues her dazzling fascination with eBay Handbags. Do we not all have a bit of her in us…?

**Birdy Num Num: We have five copies of this new, totally devine read to give away. E-mail mandi@thehummingbird.co.za.

Of course there’s a “baddie” out to put a spanner in every work, and of course there’s a “happy ending”, but one that leaves you with a bit of food for thought.

So if you’re done with the real world and wouldn’t mind slipping your mind into Ms. Luhabe’s universe for a while, get yourself a copy. We reckon you’ll be back for more!

One thing for sure is that Fiona Snyckers is one home-grown rising star.

Trinity Rising by Fiona Snyckers is available from all leading bookstores for the recommended retail price of R130.

Bird Eye View

26 February 2010
We're very happy to say we have found the perfect place to make a Bird's day dream come true: the deck at the Southern Sun Hyde Park. Of course, this being Hyde Park, it's less about the bling and more stylish sophistication, but otherwise the pool party vibe is the same: think great tunes and beautiful people soaking up the sun.
